Your Excellency,
I hope this meets you well.
Writing this letter to you is the only way I can pour out my heart to you as a daughter will to her father.
Towards the end of 2016, I was alerted by a viral video of Hilda Dokubo talking about the widely spread occurence of soot in Port Harcourt, I honestly didn't know about the word "soot" but after visiting google I realised that the dark particles of supposed dust/charcoal I always saw in my apartment and car wasn't what I thought it was, it is way harmful that I felt.
After doing some more research on the causes of soot, I found out that it was mainly composed of carbon, produced by incomplete combustion of coal, oil, wood, or other fuels. It also can consist of acids, chemicals, metals, soils, and dust.
I also found out that Breathing the tiny particles can cause coronary heart disease, asthma, bronchitis, and many other respiratory illnesses. Research has also shown that many premature deaths are directly related to soot in the environment.
Sir, in as much as we know that death is inevitable, let us save ourselves while we can; everyone deserves the gift of a healthy environment. I fear for the little ones constantly playing out doors, they deserve to grow old.
We cannot sit back and watch greedy people ruin the precious gift of life and healthy environment given to us by God.
Your Excellency, grew up knowing Port Harcourt as "The Garden City" but it's been turned into the " Poisonous City". I need the once clean and healthy city back.
I will be really happy if something is done about this.
We Need To Stop The Soot.
Best Regards,
Your's Sincerely,
Barisuka Lewis-Wikina.
