Journalists sue Electoral Commission of Ghana over GH10 accreditation fee to cover upcoming election in Ghana

A group of journalists known as International Standards Journalist Association (ISJA) has sued the Electoral Commission of Ghana over the GH10 accreditation fee. The Electoral Commission of Ghana announced their intention of charging journalists who wants to cover the upcoming election to pay the sum of GH10 (about N800) to secure an accreditation card.

According to City FM report, the furious group in one of their statement of claim accused the Electoral Commission of constituting ‘unconstitutional discrimination against each journalist on the basis of their status as a Ghanaian journalist.’ The group also wondered why the Commission approved non- Ghanaian journalists of covering the 2016 election without conditioning them to pay for accreditation tags
