BUHARI PLANS TO SERVICE AND REPAIR EFCC AND ICPC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) are to be overhauled to reposition them to properly tackle corruption in Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari made the declaration on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria’s (ICAN) 45th yearly conference, which also coincided with the body’s 50th anniversary as a registered professional association in the country.

Buhari, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Anastasia Daniel Nwaobia, also alerted all corrupt Nigerians to be ready to face the full weight of the law for their acts, as his administration would not spare anyone irrespective of class or relationship with the Presidency.
On his part, a former Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Remi Babalola, challenged Buhari to walk the talk against corruption by first declaring his assets publicly and insist that all his political appointees, including the top echelon of the bureaucracy, to do so, saying that this was the most potent tool to fight graft in public life.
Buhari then sought a partnership in the corruption battle with ICAN which the latter pledged through its president, Otunba Samuel Olufemi Deru.
