A police officer has been arrested for alledgedly kidnapping his fellow officers because they threatened to expose his illegal oil bunkering activities.
The 41-year-old man identified as Akowe Jacob was according to the Lagos state police command, arrested after allegedly kidnapping nine police officers.
Jacob who is a sergeant in the Nigerian police, was arrested with 36-year-old Godwin German, 23-year-old Tamarami Tunwa, and 29-year-old Mayibi Hazeez, who were his accomplices.
They were all charged with nine counts of kidnapping.
The victims were identified as Abdullahi Bature, Raymond Oriere, Usman Mohammed, Oguntimehin Kolawole, Tijani Jimoh, Elogbamen Timothy, Yakubu Aliyu, Usman Abdulkareem, and Dauda Mohammed.
All four defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges but were denied bail. If convicted, each defendant faces up to 20 years in prison.
